Dear friends,

Happily this message is about results - A new CD!
Looking at advance copy of the new CD as I write you from NYC, where I'll play Saturday with many dear friends to honor and celebrate the life of Gaudencio Thiago de Mello, who died in late November. Just like the birthday party we had WITH him a little over a year ago, it will be a joyous occasion.
With great pleasure Dexofon Records announces release of Dexter Payne Quartet +1 "Prá Você", a set of  6 choros, 2 forros and one original. Official release to be celebrated in Boulder, Thursday, March 13 at Caffe Sole and in Denver at Dazzle, Sunday, March 16. CDs will be available there, as well as www.dexofon.com and select outlets. The site will also offer downloads.

Advance download copies are in the hands of reviewers (more reviews welcome -please inquire!) and video previews of Sampa and Playground are searchable on youtube.

Abraços, beijos, big thanks and everything good to you for your support and generous enthusiasm!

Dear friends,

Not a lot of current gigs, but man oh man am I busy! Well, not too efficient, so it SEEMS like Im busy...
Was a great, if bittersweet trip to NY in Jan. Awesome time with Thiago's family, including a night out to hear his nephew, Thiago Thiago de Mello (who remembered me from our meeting in Manaus 16 years ago!) and a great afternoon with the amazing Souren Baronian, NY Armenian clarinet player who is going strong at 85, as well as two sets from Souren at Golden Fest, a 3 day Balkan music bash in Brooklyn and NY.

I am madly preparing for CD release of PRA VOCE, brand new CD of the Dexter Payne Quintet,THUR Mar 13 at Caffe Sole AND SUN Mar 16 at Dazzle in Denver. Attendance required... if you want to be the first with a new CD! Anyone with ideas or contacts for getting the word out to the world (i.e. reviewers, radio stations, etc.) please speak up now!

Along with everything else, I am switching mail service. While DadaMail has been fine, I think Mail Chimp will be more powerful and easier to use. SO, I will be migrating this list over - you should get an email from me  on MailChimp in the coming week. IF NOT, click the link below to sign up. In fact, why not just sign up anyway and then Ill have your zip code. Ill sort it out so you dont get doubles, promise! This is not ID theft, its just me informing you in a more intelligent way. Youll like it, I assure you! You guys will remain my main, local list for gigs in the region. But I have tons of folks "on the outside" whom I have left in the dark out of desire NOT to spam them with gigs far away. Blah blah! Trust me, youll like it.

Hot and Cold

Dear friends,

I heard the explanation about alternating hot and cold weather. Doesn't make it any easier to adapt….and I thought I was flexible!

Tonight, Dexter Payne Quintet will convene at Caffe Solé to begin a great year, it is so gratifying to play with these guys!

I must also mention that Aaron Lande, one of Art Lande's boys, is new chef at Solé. "Up a notch" hardly describes the cuisine, with wine to match. Join us for dinner!

Almost ready for CD release in March. Our goal - all new material by March, so if you want to hear any of the old favs, you'll have to buy the CD! (As a subscriber, you will get first shot at download)

Then I'm off to New York - working with family of my late friend Gaudencio Thiago de Mello to collect and archive his manuscripts and music….but also to celebrate the premier of:
and to sample the bounty of Golden Fest, Brooklyn's annual weekend Balkan music bash.

(Please note I will miss Marrakech Express at Cafe Solé Jan 16 but they will be there with James Hoskins)

I will return for a double-header Jan 21 (Tues) with Marrakech Express in the Boulder Library Tuesday Concert Series  AND the Dazzle premier of Nokuthula, marimba-based band I play with whenever I can, this time featuring Dave Corbus (gtr) and Paa Kow (drumset).

Please come out to a show and say HI!

Do stay tuned - those who receive this by email will see a switch soon to "Mail Chimp" service. If that includes you, please follow instructions (coming soon!) to insure its continued arrival in your box.I will be better able to regionalize the mailing, and reach some folks I haven't been able to…

All together now,
Dexter
