New Years Eve

Dear friends,

Hey front Range folks: Leaving New Years Eve plans to the last minute? Consider this - I will be at the Outlook Hotel With Lionel Young, Chris Harris, Tony Black... and special guest Johnny Long.

For those who don't know, John is a very old friend and real deal blues man. Grew up in E St Louis and flourished under the wing of Homesick James in Chicago. They don't get any better than Johnny. He lived in Denver for many years and I played with him alot in the day... in fact that's where I first met Lionel.

So drop those uninspired plans and come on down. We will start early and finish late (something for everyone!) with lots of time to chat and catch up between sets.

2014 looks exciting already. Dexter Payne Quintet has a CD release scheduled for Feb 13, with all new website, bandcamp downloads, possible travel plans on several fronts. Marrakech Express continues to sell out shows, and there are other musical horizons popping up.

Have the best possible New Years Eve, and stay tuned for all the fun to come! I am plotting a way to materially express the gratitude I feel towards all of you for your wonderful support. Thanks for befriending my music!

Best,
Dexter

Just around the corner

Dear friends,

Here it is, the end of the year! Seems only yesterday I had mis-calculated and discovered I had an extra week before Christmas. Did that ever disappear fast!

Still not enough hours in the day... even for just the things I WANT to do! Have I enrolled you in my campaign for the 28 hour day? 8 hours to sleep - and 20 to get it all done! Eliminate Mondays. I'm completely sold on the idea, but somehow... It doesn't seem to be gaining much traction!

Too bad, cuz I am sure all the extra time would serve me well in getting the final work done on my new album (DPQ, due out in Feb!) and making exciting music and travel plans for the coming year.

Meanwhile, in the 24 hour world, squeezed in between lots of Christmas cheer, extensive resolution writing, early spring cleaning and walkin in a winter wonderland, I have a few fun things to share this week:

TUES  Dec 24, 7pm Divine Science Church (14th & Williams, Den)
Duo with Michael Stanwood (one song in a musical evening, it's a tradition!)

THUR  Dec 26, 7pm  Caffe Sole (Table Mesa Shopping Ctr, Bldr) Facebook Event
Marrakech Express Holiday Special: the usual stellar quartet - El Yesfi Samir (oud, guit, vocal), Anthony Salvo (vln), Brett Bowen (perc), moi (clarinet). This week we have a special treat, we will be joined by James Hoskins (Sherefe, Crane Wife, Cameron Powers Project, County Road X, etc.) on cello.

FRI  Dec 27, 8:30pm Oskar Blues (Lyons)
Lionel Young Band

SAT  Dec 28,  7:30pm  Nissi's (287 & Arapahoe Rd, Lafayette)
Lionel Young Band

If you make it to all of these, you definitely get a gold star!
So, Ill see you there, right?

All the best for the rest, and then the one to come!
Merry Christmas, Happy Solstice
and dont forget to have some fun,
Dexter
