This is not a test! (comments are welcome)

Dear friends,

A quick note here to remind you of a special occurrence: I will be at the St Julien Hotel two weeks in a row! I am trying to make this a regular event so lets consider it a test run... Can I get anyone out two weeks running? There is no better season to enjoy the patio and their stellar view. AND we have a great line-up:

TUES (today!) Aug 25, 6:30-9:30pm St Julien (Walnut&9th, Bldr)
Dexter Payne Quartet featuring Jeff Jenkins (piano), Ken Walker (bass), Carl Dixon (drums & pandeiro)

Jeff & Ken are the the best around and both have a special affinity for Brazilian music. Carl is the musical leader of the new Boulder Samba School (Bateria Alegria). This will be a great evening!

WED Sept 2, 6:30-9:30pm St Julien (Walnut&9th, Bldr)
Dexter Payne Quartet with Bill Kopper (guitar), Francisco Marques (guitar, cavaquinho, pandeiro, bass), Raoul Rossiter (drums & pandeiro)

A reunion of sorts, with Raoul just back from Brazil Camp!

In the interrum I will be in MT for a wedding of very dear friends, and a special fundraiser with the Big Sky Mudflaps -- and featuring Huey Lewis!

See you soon!

Blues @ the VFW

Writing from Tulsa, OK - here to record with dear friends Little Joe McLerran and his dad, Robbie Mac. Joe won the International Blues Challenge solo/duo competition in Memphis this year. Since then he has been busy playing blues festivals from Portland, OR to Milan, Italy (and a brief tour in CO).

When they invited me to be part of the next CD, I hopped on the first freight train to Tulsa. Things went great in the studio (Mi Casa Recording, the domain of Mike Peace) ... and then the venue we were booked to play at closed earlier this week.

But the stars are shining on us - we will play tonight (FRI) at the Tulsa VFW Uptown Lounge to warm up the grill for tomorrow's Barbeque Cook-Off. Come on down, y'all! The VFW has their own serious barbeque and Joe and the band have been working hard in the studio - it's high time we got down with the folks! Music will be cookin about 7pm...

FRI Aug 21, 7pm. Little Joe Blues
VFW 1109 E. Sixth Street Tulsa, OK 74120

Dexter Payne Quartet & Kailin Yong Peace Concert

Dont miss the quartet Tuesday Aug 11, 6:30-9:30 at the St Julien Hotel. Summer on the hotel's patio is not to be missed - so make this your opportunity to relax and enjoy the music. Inspired by last week's visit from Rio de Janeiro sax/flute magician, Marcelo Bernardes, the Brazilian choro, bossa, samba & baiao will be cooking. Dexter Payne, Bill Kopper, Francisco Marques & Raoul Rossiter in the musical kitchen for you!

Sunday is a very special day: once again Dexter will be with the Kailin Yong Peace Concert project, the ever evolving musical creation of Kailin Yong (www.kailinyong.com). This episode of the series features Jesse Manno, among other luminaries, and takes place SUN, Aug 16, 4pm, @ Nederland Community Presbyterian, 210 N. Jefferson St Nederland CO 80466.

August is a busy month, with Dexter heading to Tulsa for recording with International Blues Challenge winner Little Joe McLerran next week. Returning for a date with Mohammed Alidu & Bizung Family on the 22nd. But only for a day - after that he is off to MT for a special event with the Big Sky Mudflaps and special guest Huey Lewis.

See you in September, when the Judy Roderick & the Forbears CD is rumored to be reviewed in Downbeat Magazine!!

Soon,
