Dear friends,
The new year/era is starting with a complete disregard for normal concepts of time, so I am trying to comply and write this in an instant. I hope it finds you all gleefully pursuing whatever it is you love to chase, or enjoying what you love to savor.
It is a creative time for me - one day into recording a new Lionel Young Band CD and getting pretty excited about the sounds. We have been working on some new material as well as a few performing gems which have been much requested by our CD buying public.
Recording is also under way, slightly slower paced, with "my" Dexter Payne Quartet. Using the possessive for that term is something I do with huge humility, reverence, and gratitude, for the the great musicians who participate.
In fact I am blessed by the outstanding AND talented people I get to perform with, both in these two bands, and also in Veelah, my delicious Balkan outing, which has seen more action this year than in the last few. And then there is Playback Theater West. If you don't know, lets rectify that this week!
OK. Grab your hat, and get out the door. The hills are alive!
WED Jan 9th, 12-1pm. Boulder Main Library Canyon Theater (9th&Canyon, Bldr)
Mid-day Music Meditation
THUR Jan 10th, 7:30-10:30pm. Caffe Solé (Table Mesa Ctr, Bldr)
Dexter Payne Quartet: wi Bill Kopper, Dave Willey, Raoul Rossiter
SAT Jan 12th, 8pm. Dairy Ctr for the Arts (26th, between Canyon & Walnut,Bldr)
PLayback Theater West
SAT Jan 26th, 8pm. Salina School House (Salina, Four-Mile Canyon Rd)
Veelah feat. Meg York, Dave Willey, Jay Forrest, Brian Mullins
See you... at all four! Small overlaps in some personnel, but all uniquely compelling music. Dont miss out!
Very best,
Dexter
